Online driving licence checking service goes live
The DVLA’s online driving licence checking service has now gone live ahead of the abolition of the paper licence counterpart on 8 June.
The View Driving Licence service allows drivers to view licence information such as penalty points, endorsements and driving entitlements on the DVLA website.
Drivers can also share their licence information with their employer or a vehicle rental provider by giving them a unique code, allowing the company to check the driver’s licence within 72 hours.
The system was originally due to go live in January but was delayed after trade bodies such as the BVRLA and FTA raised concerns that it would increase the burden on operators.
The DVLA said the paper counterpart, where penalty points and endorsements have up to now been recorded, will remain valid until 8 June, so drivers must keep hold of it until then.
